Ecology Action Centre (EAC) is the oldest environmental organization in Nova Scotia with an energetic transportation issues division. Their goals include decreasing the number of single occupancy vehicle trips, promoting sustainable transportation infrastructure, and encouraging active living through physically active transportation. http://www.ecologyaction.ca/transportation_issues/transportation.shtm. They operate a number of successful transportation related programs throughout Nova Scotia including:
- Steer Clean provides incentives to Nova Scotians to recycle their old, polluting cars and replace them with cleaner alternatives (http://www.steerclean.ca/)
- Active & Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) is a comprehensive approach to increasing the use of safe active transportation by children and youth (http://www.ecologyaction.ca/asrts/)
- Bike Again! is a community project that transforms used bike parts into new bikes, making bicycling more affordable and accessible to everyone (http://ecologyaction.ca/bikeagain/)
- TRAX aims to make sustainable transportation options more viable in Nova Scotia. TRAX projects include transit pass programs, active transportation projects, and education initiatives (http://ecologyaction.ca/trax/)
- Green Mobility Capital Grants Program is a pilot program, administered by TRAX, to assist towns, municipalities, band councils, and community groups in the construction, purchase or improvement of community-based sustainable transportation infrastructure
- ADAPT (The Association of Doctors for the Advancement of Physically-active Transportation) is partnered with TRAX and aims to prevent rather than react to health problems related to physical inactivity. The doctor members advocate for AT infrastructure.
