There’s a lot going on in Annapolis County. Most recently, an AT map has been produced (see outdoor recreation map below) that outlines opportunities for all kinds of outdoor recreation. Annapolis County Recreation Services recently funding from conserve Ns and the Ecology Action Center as part of the Green Mobility Capital Grant Program. The county has partnered with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal regional office, Annapolis County RCMP and Annapolis community Health Board to deliver a Share the Road Campaign.
This campaign will create a safer cycling environment along the rural roads of the region. The project will include the installation of approximately 120 "share the road" signs along rural roads and bicycle racks at strategic public locations. The project will include an integrated social marketing campaign targeted at both motoriest and cyclists, encouraging them to be more aware and to drive and pedal safe.
It is hoped that this campaign will encourage more recreation options for residents of the region and increased cycle tourism opportunities as well.
Other initiatives include:
- The Annapolis County Outdoor Recreation Map showcases active outdoor recreation opportunities in hopes that residents and visitors will explore the county and plan outdoor adventures for all four seasons; it is also seen as part of a Nova Scotia-wide AT network encouraging residents to use AT as a mode of transportation. Those interested can order the map from the County of Annapolis Recreation Department.
