Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection

This provincial government department takes the lead on several injury prevention initiatives that are youth focused. The Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth resource (PARTY) and the No Regrets peer-leadership initiative focus on the concept of smart risks where teenagers learn about managing risk in their lives. The model comes from the national non-profit injury prevention organization SMARTRISK which aims to teach everyone that risk can be fun but also needs to be managed to reduce the chances of injury.

Health Promotion and Protection is also working with other government departments on a variety of injury prevention initiatives that target children and youth. Topics range from crosswalk safety to helmet use, and include injury prevention among at-risk youth.
